Fresh anti-Muslim hate crimes in the US, after the distribution of the hate DVD

In a previous post I discussed how a racist organisation distributed 28 million anti-Muslim DVDs to people in swing states in the US.

Well, the repercussions are here: Anti-muslim hate crimes. Women and children attacked with chemical sprays in a mosque. Thank you, Clarion Fund and Aish-ha-Torah.

I know you are proud of being fair- and independent-minded, so I wondered what you thought of this:

Even Orthodox Jews are a little afraid of Aish HaTorah... if there is a more cultish, fanatical group in modern Judaism, I don't know it. That sounds horrible.

Laura - that's quite interesting to learn indeed. Despite its total charity/NGO-ish front it is obviously a very political organisation which, to say the least, makes me very uneasy. Especially when the repercussions of their actions and decisions are physical violence against innocent people.
Welcome to the blog. :)

Jeff - good to hear from you. Hmm, a link to Davy's blog...
(grumbling as he clicks on the link to a blog he despises)

Hmm. Well, I'm not sure whether you ask me about the incident itself (the driving on yom Kippur + the riots) or on Davy's entry per se. In any event:

- if there's a law forbidding driving on yom Kippur, the man should be apprehended. if not, then, not. Simple as that.
- I've been searching online and there doesn't seem to be one.
- According to Wikipedia, Arabs constitute 1/3 of the population of Acre, and 70% of the population of "the mandatory district near the old city". Accordingly, their needs need to be respected too.

- If someone eats or smokes during Ramadan, in Cairo, they get dirty looks. That's pretty much it though. At most, someone will shout something mean as you walk past with your sandwich or something. And we're talking a 90% muslim population here.

- Gangs have torched no less than a dozen Arab houses. Yet the Arabs apprehended are nearly twice as many as the Jews. While both parties have caused damaged and one can expect that everyone involved should be punished, the fact is, as long as the Israeli government fails to exercise its monopoly of violence and furthermore lets those who attacks Arab off the hook - most of the time - there will be no real peace in this city.

- I deplore how Davy insists on insulting people. For an armed proto-terrorist like himself to call elected officials "fifth columnists", i find this rather inappropriate.

- The way he lambastes the guy who tells me him he doesn't have enough information to write about the topic (which is true)- and how he replies that it's his opinions and then admits that "it isn't particularly well researched"- ah, typical Davy.

All this said, and notwithstanding my abysmal opinion of the man - I overall agree with most of his argument. If there is a consensus to be had or an agreement to be reached, it should be on friendly terms with society leaders. The end result however must not be the application of all whims of the majority - what's next? no driving on shabbat either? - but something satisfactory for all parties.
