Oooooh this is going to be fun. The #CairoTweetup is going SAILING!
Join fellow Tweeps for a boat ride on the
We'll then head somewhere for coffee and conversation. Or food. We'll discuss this in the boat!
Why: because several people suggested the idea last month. Because we liked the idea. Because feluccas remind us of college! Because it's 30 degrees in February, and we can't think of nicer things (actually, we can, but eh) than watching the sun set on
When: Saturday 20 February. Meet at
What: Since a felucca takes 15 people, we won't be taking a sailboat but a motorboat (worry not: it's just as tacky as the sailboats!) which can fit 50 people. We'll have enough room to be comfortably seated; and hopefully this will convince the last-minute undecided people to join us, fully knowing that THERE IS ROOM FOR EVERYONE!
Where: It's across from the Nile Hilton, a few metres north (ya3ni from the Nile Hilton, cross the street, and with the Nile to your left you walk a few metres towards Abdel Moneim Riyad, and take the stairs down to your left.
Got that down?
The مرسى (pier?) doesn’t have a name sign - says the boat guy, Amr, it’s called 'Hussein Fahmi'. If lost just ask for Amr-el marakbi. Or one of us.
This is approximately where it is: click here for map
And when there - look for a boat that DOESN'T have a sail!
How long: The boat trip won't be longer than 1 or 1.5 hour because, well, experience has shown that there's always someone who has to pee.
Afterwards we'll head somewhere else -- so far undetermined. We'll get back to you.
What to bring: The chocolates you got on Valentine's. Or, those you bought for that girl at work but she threw in your face: we'll take those too.
More seriously - I reckon they sell cans and other drinks on board. But you're welcome to bring your own drinks. Bring one extra for your favourite tweeter, too. Yalla mesh khosara. Snacks to share are very welcome too.
And depending on the weather, perhaps a light jacket?
Kids: are joyfully welcome, of course.
How much: Will depend on the final tally but I'm guessing around 5 pounds per person. Yeah, cheap.
Where to park: I don't have the slightest idea. This is Cairo. Pay someone off w-erken fel mamnou3!
What you need to do now: Well an RSVP would be nice. Preferably via twitter or email.
* Yes, I know, Embee will remind me that I was a full 2 hours late last time. Hmph.
