The Cairo Tweetup goes OPEN MIC! Friday 07 May, Darb1718, from 6 pm onwards

A few words on how this Tweetup came to be, I believe, are in order:

كان ياما كان, يا سادة يا كرام...

We flirted with a couple of mad ideas. I wanted to have a Flash-Tweetup. But then, with the #CairoTraffic being what it is, we'll all still be stuck on kobri oktobar [yes, oktobar] by the time it ends.

Tarek wanted to give us food poisoning feed us somewhere in Imbaba. (though Tarek swears it's clean and edible). And, eeek, JPierre and Ziad seconded.
[we'll keep that one for another day, lads.]

But then Eman pointed out that, essentially, we need to get off our bottoms and do something, since we talk sufficiently online. Point taken.

Then in a (habitual, of course) stroke of genius Sarah suggested that we go to the Open Mic night on Friday. Which is a great idea.

So there you have it.
The Cairo Tweetup is going to the OPEN MIC NIGHT at Darb 1718!!

--> The best part is that our buddy Ahmed @almojadidi (people, I BEG YOU, start calling him Doodi, we have to make it catch on!) is actually ON THE LINE-UP. Yes, he is.

Location: Darb 1718 Contemporary Art and Culture Center
Kasr El Sham3 Street
Al Fakhareen - Old Cairo
Behind the Hanging Church and Amr Mosque.
There's a nice map, too.

* If you have questions or, on D-Day, are lost, call Moataz from Darb1718, on 012 21 92 449.
From the man's description, it sounds like a really cool setting. And it's in the garden, I believe.

Subway: MarGirgis. and it's a Friday evening so the subway won't be crowded. No excuses!

When: This friday, 07 May. Aywa, ba3d bokra.
The open-mic is from 6 to 11. I think I'll try to get there at around 6:30 / 7ish, and catch the final rays of sunlight in the garden. Some people will be there as early as 6, however.

Suggested conversation topics: Doodi's performance (Can you feel the pressure, Ahmed? :). And whom we will coerce next to take the mic. Oh, and what we can get ابو الفساد for his birthday.

What to bring: A friend. I know that people feel that it's far away (though it's really accessible, especially by subway, and especially on a Friday evening!) so it's important that people motivate each other.

And, it's an open-mic night. Bring fresh tomatoes and eggs, of course.

RSVP: well, if you want. The Facebook event is here. But we both know you're coming, right?

-----------------

PS - by the way, there's a 'Girly Tweetup' posted on the Cairo Tweetup facebook page, to whom it may concern.. I reckon it's tomorrow Thursday May 6th.

Dear Sirs,

I'm want to point out that it indeed illegal to call my friend Ahmed Al Mojadidi, A.K.A Mog, (who shall permanently and furthermore be referred to as Mog) "Doodi".

You cannot in good faith refer to my friend Mog as the childish version of Shit.

There are many other names to refer to Mog that are totally legal, names include Mog, Moji, Mo Mo, Didi, Double Didi, Diddle, Bumbum lovetum, Bahbee, honey bear, and sugarplum, amongst others.

Please consider this a friendly warning. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Some guy that just wants to screw with you.

Dear Elazul -
Very well. I may reconsider calling him Doodi if I can indeed use "Bumbum lovetum".
In public, that is.

ALLRIGHT!
Now we're talking :D
Have to say I have never been to this place in my life. Have no tiniest idea where it is, but thank God for Egyptians who just love to give directions to lost girls (right or wrong, it doesn't matter!)
I'll be in Faggala so I don't think it'll be hard for me ISAllah!
One question, is it an open air place?

I've never been there either - but i'm sure we'll find it somehow! I think the subway is out best option, too.
And i do think it's an open air place, I think the Moataz guy said on the phone that it was in the garden..
