I am sitting in a small village by the sea on the east coast of Canada. On this night, I am watching from afar the brave people of Egypt demand justice. May the house of horrors that you are exploring this night lead to peace and freedom for your country and for us all. Blessings on you.
I'm sure this picture represents only a fraction of the amount of files in the State Security archive. How many rows of shelves such as this were there? Were they all in once place or spread around? How many files would you estimate there were in total? And last but not least - did you find my file?
Fleeting Glimpse: well, this cabinets was an office-size room, with several cabinets like this. And there were several of those rooms. Hard for me to tell how many files were there.. plenty. People are reporting finding all sorts of details about their lives - photos from parties they attended, internet browsing histories, etc..
And yes, I have your file. You, my friend, have got some interesting secrets.. :)
I'm an economic consultant, perpetual expat, often lost, curious, religious, secular, illogical and hesitant.
This blog is somewhat of a travelogue, a political and economic commentary board.
Your comments and emails are both welcome and encouraged; this blog is meant to be read and it's nice to know that it is! Agree, disagree, object, discuss...
Thank you for wasting your working hours here.

Dude, this is almost more exciting than Feb 11. This stuff is incredible! Keep up the investigation and the leaks!
Goodness me. Such repression and fear shown by *needing* all these reports. Will these files be important for any trial?
That picture is incredibly powerful, me laisse sans voix...East Germany indeed.
Anonymous: Thank you very much. Everyone's support is important to us, whether you're right next door or in a village by the east coast of Canada :)
Andrew: It is indeed no less exciting! Not sure how much of the leaks will find their way out though..
Linda: We hope so.. against the people doing the surveillance!
Nicole: I know. It was weird. not unexpected, but weird!
